Following up on the results of the expeditions of 2015 and 2016, a third and final expedition will again focus on the region of Karrat (between latitudes 71 and 73 N, on the West coast of Greenland). The main aims are to test new interpretations that have been developed regarding the architecture of the Paleoproterozoic Karrat Group, as well as to study the Archean rocks of the area. Targets identified through photogeology studies, using oblique photographs acquired in the last two seasons, will be checked and key traverses studied.  Samples will be collected for ore geological, geochemical, mineralogical and petrological studies and for age determinations. The daily work will be carried out by helicopter and inflatable boats, operating out of a ship used as basecamp. This work will allow to unravel the region’s stratigraphy, structure, metamorphic evolution  and mineral potential, and will lead to the publication of new 1:100.000 geological map sheets of the region. The project is funded by the Ministry of Mineral Research of Greenland and by GEUS, the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland.
